Around the end of 2023 the car started popping up captions saying that there was an electrical circuit system fault : Repair needed.
It was intermittent so I could go for days with no problem and then the caption reappeared.
Vauxhall couldn't even look at it for 6 weeks and wanted £120 to do that.
A friend recommended a local guy with diagnostic kit - He had it for a day and said that he could see the fault codes but could not tie it down to anything in particular.

Around January this year the caption stopped appearing altogether for some time.
Until one day I went to start the car and it was completely dead.
Suspecting a flat battery as I don't use the car a lot, I charged the battery and it started ok - The caption reappeared.
A few days later it was completely dead again so I got Halfords to come to my house and install a new battery.

Everything returned to normal but with the intermittent fault warning.
Then it was completely dead again - Rectified with a battery charge.

Talked about it with some friends and one (who also does not use his car a lot) recommended a solar trickle charger to keep the battery topped up.
I bought one and installed it.

This morning I was going out so I disconnected the trickle charger and attempted to start the car (this was the first time since installing the trickle charger).
The result was an endless cycle of flashing lights - Beeping - Radio turning on and off etc and impossible to start.

I disconnected the battery for a while and after reconnecting the problem remained.
I repeated with a longer off period and still the same.

So, after this long drawn-out explanation of the problem, does anyone have any tips for a reset so I can at least get the car started and take it to a garage ?

I would double check that when your new battery was installed did Halfords reset the system to tell the car it has a new battery otherwise it will still think it has the old one even though it hasnt.

Halfords connected their kit up and it said it didn't need a reset.

Update :
I phoned Vauxhall Breakdown Assistance and they sent me a weblink to the RAC for a callout.
The RAC site said it din't recognise my details (not surprising as I'm not a member) and to call them by phone.
Phoned the RAC who wanted me to join for a year - I declined as I am an AA member.

My AA membership did not include Home Cover so I phoned them to upgrade and because it was to an existing problem they charged me £81.44 to upgrade.
They then arranged the callout and estimated about one hour and they were just about right too.

Their man rapid charged the battery and connected a power bank too, tried various things without success.
He then went through a set procedure on his phone which was Do this, wait so many minutes then do that and so on - All with his diagnostic terminal connected.
First time it didn't work and he went through it all again and was successful.
Whole thing took around an hour.

Lessons learned :
Don't use a solar powered trickle charger on a Grandland X.
If you don't use your car very often run it for an hour on the drive once a week (or take it for a drive).
If you get a similar problem just call the AA, they can fix it.
