Quick update, I've driven 4500 miles since the head and valves were replaced on my Grandland without any reoccurrence of the problem. If its of any use to anybody going forward it was Rowcliffes in Yeovil who expertly resolved my issue and I would highly recommend them for the professional service I received during the whole saga.

Hi mark
Was your car within the 3 year warranty?
I currently have the valve problem and I’m due to hear back from Vauxhall exec office today over who is paying the £2850 bill because I’m refusing.

Sorry for the delay, yes initial fault was reported and eventually repaired within warranty period. Now 5500 miles since repair without a reoccurrence.

I’ve had my 68 plate Grandland X for 2 years. Had no issues until 3 weeks ago when my car started juddering when moving from 3rd to 4th gear (Manual) on a straight, level road and in perfect conditions. Managed to stutter home. It had its MOT 2 weeks ago and I raised this issue but the technician took it for a spin and couldn’t find any problems. Today, on my way home from Leeds it started again, juddering in 3rd , 4th and 5th gears. The dash board signal was indicating me to change to a higher gear but the juddering made it impossible. Managed to crawl home again and noticed a burning smell. Has this cause if this been identified? Thanks in advance.
