r4.0 google maps volume

hi there,
I've had my 20 plate grandland for a couple of weeks now, and i use Google maps nav on my android phone via android auto, and its great.
however, i cant turn the nav voice volume down? I've tried the "softer " voice setting in google maps, stilll too loud. ive tried turning volume down when its talking but the new volume doesnt store??
any ideas as i cannot find any other setting to change?
